How to open a Forex account in South Africa

Before you open an account, you need to understand which account you need. In South Africa, Forex brokers offer five account types:

Practice (demo) accounts are funded with virtual money and are commonly used for training or testing new ideas and strategies. Every Forex trader should start with a practice account.
Cent accounts multiply all your investments by 100 and divide all payments by the same amount. If you want to trade without leverage and don’t have 100 000 USD — Cent accounts are the best choice.
Mini accounts have no starting capital limits and are often used for high-leverage trading. Mini accounts are a good choice for beginner Price Action traders, but less favorable to scalpers due to rather loose spreads.
Standard accounts have a 100 USD minimum starting capital, provide better trading conditions. are used by the majority of traders. A lot of scalpers start with the Standard accounts because they have tighter spreads.

ECN Zero accounts have a 500 USD minimum starting capital, provide 0-pips spreads in exchange for a transaction fee, and are used by the experienced traders with sizable assets. While some scalpers might be tempted to start on ECN Zero, it is not recommended.
Once you have picked an account type, you need to sign up at Forex broker’s website. For example Forex broker JustForex. Then, verify your identity by providing support with a scan of your passport or another government-issued document. From that point on, you can start trading on a demo account. To trade on the real-money one, you’ll have to top it up first.

How to find a good Forex broker in South Africa

A lot of South African Forex brokers do not offer the best conditions. They act as if the market is niche and they are already doing you a favour by working with you.

Luckily, some international players started to catch on and have entered the region. The best one is JustForex company – a UK-based broker with pretty tight spreads and rather reliable support. Since they are still entering the market, the level of service for South Africa is noticeably better than for the other countries. There is no guarantee that it will last, but right now they are the best.

How to choose a trading style and strategy

There is a percent of Forex traders that trade for fun; however, the majority of them are doing it for profits. Profit on Forex is more often than not connected to a lot of risks. So, to determine your trading style, you need to determine how much risk you want to take.

Basically, as a newcomer, you have two options: scalping and Price Action. There are other strategies too, but they are more advanced and require experience.

Scalping

Scalping is a highly demanding strategy that depends on making dozens — if not hundreds — of trades each day. It is also extremely risky and tends to cause a lot of emotional stress. Overall, it is the most profitable strategy, but most people can’t handle it for long periods.

Scalping is based on making a minimum profit from each trade but compensating with their overall number. The scalpers take advantage of the newly released economic reports, momentary market trends and sudden price surges. They need tight spreads — or, ideally, no spreads at all. They also need a good connection to the brokers’ servers, since even the slightest slippage in scalping can decide the profitability of the order.

If you want to try your hand in scalping, start with the “lazy river” strategy – it is slower and less profitable than the others but allows for some downtime and is easier on your psyche.

Price Action

Price Action is a slower but more systematic approach that prioritizes stability before the profit. It is based on recognizing the patterns formed by the candlesticks and moving averages, and trading by them.

Price Action traders have more downtime, as well as more time to make decisions. The downside is lower profits.
Since this is a slower strategy, Price Action traders often prioritize good leverage options and reliable analytic reports before the good connection and tighter spreads. However, if you have enough starting capital to cover the minimal trades and can analyze the market yourself, the 0-pips spreads definitely won’t hurt.

Leverage is an ability to trade with larger amounts than your investing capital allows. It increases risks but also increases the profits. Most Forex brokers offer leverage up to 1:3000.

There are dozens of Price Action patterns and even more guides. However, you can start by learning about pin-bars, inside/outside bars and false breakouts. They are more common and often are the only ones that you will see for quite a while.

When it comes to Forex trading, South Africa is in a somewhat weird place - there are many great traders and a lot of enthusiasm, but the infrastructure is rather limited.

Why are Mandela coins wanted so much?

Well, as we all know, one of the the most famous men on the planet, Nelson Mandela, his head is on this coin and that makes this coin very unique and a very special coin. Should you ask all the people on the planet, 7 billion people, should you ask them who is the most famous man, the majority of them would have to say it’s Mr. Nelson Mandela. This makes this coin really, really special. It is the first time in the history of the world that a government minted money to commemorate somebody’s birthday, and this was Mr. Nelson Mandela. He turned 90 years old in 2008, and they only made 5 million of these coins. Our country has got about 46 million people, and people collecting Mandela coins wanted one for their collection, but not everybody could get one. This makes this coin very, very special and sought after. Considering there’s about 50 million coin stamp collectors worldwide that is active. Their coin collection is just not complete without a coin like this, which is what makes these Mandela coins wanted.

Another reason that makes these Mandela coins wanted is that whenthey came out, and they were supposed to be circulated, they simply weren’t. They just disappeared. And any coin that should go into circulation and doesn’t generally creates more value over time, than a mint. Because a mint is specifically for an investor. A coin that’s supposed to go in and be five rand and be circulated in the market, and isn’t, creates a totally different environment in terms of what its wealth will be, or its worth will be, in time to come. So yeah, that’s really why.

Make More Money with Mandela Coins and KrugerRands

The coins that have value are those that are graded by the grading companies, so you must know and be able to differentiate between the graded and non-graded Mandela coins.

Grading Companies

The largest and most respected organisation of professional coin dealers is called PNG (Professional Numismatists Guild) and ICTA (Industry Council for Tangible Assets). They look over the coin market and make sure dealers around the world know about the differences in between grading companies.PNG releases surveys of the biggest grading companies.

As you can see on the table produced by PNG, NGG and PCGS emerge as the top graders in the world.

For this reason The Coin Company only deals with NGC and PCGS coins. All our Nelson Mandela Coins, Nelson Mandela 90th Birthday R5, 2000 Nelson Mandela Millennium R5 and 1994 Presidential Inauguration R5 are NGG or PCGS graded.

BE AWARE!! Do not buy any coins that are not graded by PCGS or NGC. Nelson Mandela coins without grading have no other value than the one they represent.

ANACS grading came into being as an arm of the American Numismatic Association, the world’s largest coin club. In 1990 after ANA sold its grading service to Amos Press of Sidney, Ohio, it ranked “average” in the PNG (Professional Numismatists Guild) and ICTA (Industry Council for Tangible Assets) report for grading accuracy. For this reason we don’t deal with ANACS coins.

Krugerrand Traders: We Buy And Sell Krugerrands SA

History of the Krugerrand

Throughout the ages the shimmering beauty of pure gold has captivated mankind and the desire to own exquisite objects crafted from this precious metal.

Gold coins have always represented the ultimate in wealth and prestige.

For collectors no other metal can match the quality and lustre of coins struck in the finest gold. South Africa ranks among the very few countries where gold coins have been minted as negotiable currency and still remain available for general purchase, allowing collectors to own a share in the countries production of fine gold.

The first Krugerrand’s,consisting of 1 troy ounce of fine gold  were struck by The South African Mint on 3 May 1967 .The design of the Krugerrand was based on the ZAR or Kruger  Ponde, historical coins of South Africa,

The obverse (front) of the Krugerrand depicts the bust of Paul Kruger who was president of the ZAR (Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek), which comprised of the old Transvaal, when the Witwatersrand gold was discovered in 1886.

The reverse of the Krugerrand depicts a prancing Springbok.

The name of the Krugerrand was derived from

Kruger (President Paul Kruger) and Rand, the monetary unit of

South Africa. The Rand is associated with the area called

the Witwatersrand “the ridge of white water” an important

gold producing area in South Africa.

The alloy of the Krugerrand was selected at 22 carat or 916.7% gold with the balance being copper, the old traditional alloy of gold coins.

The Krugerrand price, being a bullion coin, is linked to the daily gold price and therefore constantly fluctuates.

In 1980 the fractional Krugerrand’s (1/2 ounce 1/4 ounce and 1/10 ounce) were added to the 1-ounce Krugerrand in order to assist the smaller buyer to obtain goldat an affordable price. The Krugerrand is unique in that it is legal tender

or a valid trading coin without a face value. The face value is 1 ounce of fine gold(or fractions thereof) and is traded as such

From the above specifications we can see that the perception that a 1 oz Krugerranddoes not contain 1 oz of gold is untrue. 1 troy oz of gold = 31.103 grams, while a

1 oz Krugerrand weighs 33.930 grams, therefore the 1 oz Krugerrand contains 31.103 grams or 1 ounce of fine gold and 2.827 grams or .09090698 ounce of copper.

The actual weight of a 1 oz Krugerrand is thus 1.09090698 ounces.

The Krugerrand remains the worlds most popular and actively traded

gold bullion coin, with in excess of 58 million ounces having been minted.

A Coin Collection requires time and investment but it is a very rewarding activity. Regardless of whether you have a lot of money to spend or small budget, I will try to give you the tips on how to start collecting and making money for the future! Different ways to collect
At The Coin Company all our clients share the same interest: Coins

There are two different main types.

Collecting only highly graded certified coins or Profit interest: The type of client that wants to buy coins as an investment. This type of client will look for coins that will grow in value in the future.
Coin Investment requires the advice of a broker to make the right choice and purchase. This is a long time investment. We do not recommend buying online any coin before having the possibility to inspect the coin in your hand.

Coin collections
Most of the coins you will find at The Coin Company are graded coins as well as rare South African coins. This means that coins have been inspected and inserted in a plastic capsule with a bar code and a hologram to certify the coin is authentic. This process is done in United States.

If you have a collection of coins that are currently in circulation, remember that unfortunately we don’t buy or sell circulated coins.

If your coins are out of circulation, old or rare, never try to clean them.

The value will decrease if you clean them.

Make the right decision

When you do this, the exchange rate between the two currencies—based on supply and demand—determines how many euros you get for your pounds. And the exchange rate fluctuates continuously.

WHAT IS FOREX?

A single pound on Monday could get you 1.19 euros. On Tuesday, 1.20 euros. This tiny change may not seem like a big deal. But think of it on a bigger scale. A large international company may need to pay overseas employees. Imagine what that could do to the bottom line if, like in the example above, simply exchanging one currency for another costs you more depending on when you do it? These few pennies add up quickly. In both cases, you—as a traveler or a business owner—may want to hold your money until the exchange rate is more favorable.

OPPORTUNITIES IN FOREX: WHAT’S YOUR OPINION?

Just like stocks, you can trade currency based on what you think its value is (or where it’s headed). But the big difference with forex is that you can trade up or down just as easily. If you think a currency will increase in value, you can buy it. If you think it will decrease, you can sell it. With a market this large, finding a buyer when you’re selling and a seller when you’re buying is much easier than in in other markets. Maybe you hear on the news that China is devaluing its currency to draw more foreign business into its country. If you think that trend will continue, you could make a forex trade by selling the Chinese currency against another currency, say, the US dollar. The more the Chinese currency devalues against the US dollar, the higher your profits. If the Chinese currency increases in value while you have your sell position open, then your losses increase and you want to get out of the trade.

If prices are quoted to the hundredths of cents, how can you see any significant return on your investment when you trade forex? The answer is leverage.

When you trade forex, you’re effectively borrowing the first currency in the pair to buy or sell the second currency. With a US$5-trillion-a-day market, the liquidity is so deep that liquidity providers—the big banks, basically—allow you to trade with leverage. To trade with leverage, you simply set aside the required margin for your trade size. If you’re trading 400:1 leverage, for example, you can trade $2,000 in the market while only setting aside $5 in margin in your trading account. For 50:1 leverage, the same trade size would still only require about $40 in margin. This gives you much more exposure, while keeping your capital investment down.

But leverage doesn’t just increase your profit potential. It can also increase your losses, which can exceed deposited funds. When you’re new to forex, you should always start trading small with lower leverage ratios, until you feel comfortable in the market.

How to Start Trade Forex with a demo account

When you open a forex position, you are buying one currency while simultaneously selling another. Read on to learn about forex trading basics and how a forex trade works: including currency pairs, the spread, pips and leverage.

Forex trading always involves selling one currency in order to buy another. For this reason, they are quoted in pairs that show which currency is being bought and which is being sold. Each currency in the pair is listed in the form of its three letter code, which tends to be formed of two letters that stand for the region, and one standing for the currency itself.

GBP/USD, for instance, is a currency pair that involves the Great British pound and the US dollar. In this pair, you are buying pound sterling by selling US dollars.

The first currency listed in a forex pair is called the base currency, and the second currency is called the quote currency. The price of a forex pair is how much one unit of the base currency is worth in the quote currency.

So in the above example, GBP is the base currency and USD is the quote currency. If GBP/USD is trading at 1.35361, then one pound is worth 1.35361 dollars.

If the pound rises against the dollar, then a single pound will be worth more dollars and the pair’s price will increase. If it drops, the pair’s price will decrease. So if you think that the base currency in a pair is likely to strengthen against the quote currency, you can buy the pair (going long). If you think it will weaken, you can sell the pair (going short).

The spread is the difference between the buy and sell prices quoted for a forex pair.

Like many financial markets, when you open a forex position you’ll be presented with two prices. If you want to open a long position, you trade at the buy price, which is slightly above the market price. If you want to open a short position, you trade at the sell price – slightly below the market price.

When a forex pair increases or decreases in price, that movement is measured in units called pips. A pip is usually equivalent to a one-digit movement in the fourth decimal place of a currency pair. So, if GBP/USD moves from $1.35361 to $1.35471, then it has moved a single pip.

The exception to this rule is when the quote currency is listed in much smaller denominations, with the most notable example being the Japanese yen. Here, a movement in the second decimal place constitutes a single pip.

The decimal places shown after the pip are called fractional pips, or sometimes pipettes.

Leverage allows you to get exposure to large amounts of currency without having to commit too much capital.

A single pip is a very small unit of movement, and while forex pairs tend to be very volatile they often move in relatively minor increments. For this reason, forex traders will either have to trade large batches known as lots, or take advantage of leverage

2008 MANDELA 90th BIRTHDAY COIN
[Proofs Valued at R45,000.00*]
Mandela Coins WantedThe most popular of the Mandela coins are the 90th Birthday Coin. These coins were released in 2008 marking a very special day of Madiba.

The reality is, if one looks at any famous person, any famous piece of art, once they’ve gone, the value of those collectibles go drastically up. They’re not going to be able to make another 90th Mandela coin. Its just never going to happen again. So now you have a very limited amount of an item, and now that Mr. Mandela is passed, these R5 coins are going to become rarer and rarer. And will just keep going up and up in value.

The Griqua Town coinage was the very first currency to be released in South Africa all the way back in 1815. This Griqua R5 coin was released to mark the 200th year of the Griqua Town.  As a matter of fact, the image imprinted on the coin is actually a rendition of the original coin, interesting!

Again, only a limited amount of these were released into circulation and they were all snatched up very quickly into private collections! They are still floating around, but if you get your hands on one of these, be sure to keep it in a safe place!

Place Where you can Sell Mandela Coin

The South African Mint, a subsidiary of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) is proud to announce two new coins which pay tribute to one of the most outstanding figures in South African public life and one of the key political architects of present day South Africa, Nelson Mandela.

2018 marks a century since the birth of Nelson Mandela and the Mint has produced a coin range to commemorate this milestone.

The coins, a bronze alloy and sterling-silver, honouring the global icon of hope will be available from today and can be purchased from the South African Mint’s retail store in Centurion, Elegance Jewellers in Melrose Arch and various pop up stores in malls around South Africa (visit www.samint.co.za for details).

The bronze alloy coin is priced at R127 and tells its own tale, says Tumi Tsehlo, MD, South African Mint.

“Pricing the coin was a conscious tribute to Nelson Mandela’s legacy and our way of paying it forward. To celebrate 100 years since the birth of Mandela, and in remembrance of the 27 long and lonely years he spent in prison, the entry level bronze alloy coin is priced at R127. With every coin purchased, R27 (VAT-free) will be donated to the Nelson Mandela Foundation”.

The coins portray Madiba, as he was affectionately known, through the years. The R50 bronze alloy depicts him as a young lawyer and the R50 sterling-silver coin, as he looked later in life as the country’s first democratic president.

Born a century ago, Nobel laureate, Mandela was a leading figure in South Africa’s fight against Apartheid rule. The new coins are the second instalment in the “Celebrating South Africa” theme, through which the Mint celebrates milestones and symbols of South Africa’s freedom, democracy and culture. The first coin series in this theme was the 2017 OR Tambo Centenary range.

The two collectable coins are each packaged in alluring ‘coin blister’ envelopes which bear endearing images of Mandela over the years.

According to the South African Mint, the purpose of the series “Celebrating South Africa” is to educate and provide a historical perspective on SA’s struggle icons without whose efforts, bravery and self-sacrifice the fight against minority rule would not be sustained. The inaugural coin in the range featured Mandela’s comrade-in-struggle OR Tambo and was launched during his birth centenary last year.

“South Africans must never forget her heroes who stood up and against injustice and inequality to usher a new era of freedom and democracy. We hope their stories will continue to be told and heard every time someone holds a Madiba or Tambo commemorative coin,” adds Tsehlo.

“Collectability is a function of craftsmanship, quality and theme amongst other personal preferences. The Mandela series no doubt ticks all the boxes and will be an amazing addition to any collection, not only because of its design but also because of the enduring value of the theme.”

“We will soon be announcing new products in the Mandela Centenary range that will far exceed the expectations of both numismatics and aficionados and add value to their collections.”

About the South African Mint: The South African Mint is home to the world famous Krugerrand, the first bullion coin in the world, introduced in 1967. The Mint is the continent’s leading manufacturer of legal coin tender, as well as commemorative and rare collectible coins. Difference Between Graded and Non-Graded Mandela Coins

How to sell Mandela R5 coins: Mandela Coin sold for R750 000

The Inauguration R5 Proof-69 Coins Are Undervalued And Provide An Excellent Investment Opportunity

With the sale of the finest known rare Mandela Proof Inauguration for R750 000 there is a vacuum that exists between the one finest known specimen and the second finest known specimens in Proof-69 condition. Only 216 of these coins have been graded by PCGS and NGC. They are currently selling at R45 000 a coin and are a steal at that price. By then end of the year these coins should be selling with ease at around R100 000. You do not have to be a rocket scientist to work out that if a PF-70 sold for the price of R750 000 and there is only one, that with a ratio of 1-216 that the coins are very, very undervalued at R45 000.

This is the one and only specimen of the rare Inauguration R5 proof coins to be graded PF-70 or perfect. The coin was sold for US $99,337 or R750 000. We expect this coin to be valued at around R1.5 million by the end of the year and over R2 million by the end of 2009. The reverse or tails side of the world’s fastest appreciating rare coin in all of history. The coin as you can see is breathtakingly beautiful and absolutely flawless.
Every single time that there is a sale of a finest known in the country and this is then widely reported it alters the very architecture and the fabric of the entire world market. The most direct effect of the sale of a finest known coin is upon the coins of its very own type and grade. There will be intense focus by the media and also the public at large on all of the Proof Mandela R5 Inauguration coins once this article is placed onto our site and also released to the world media. New investors and collectors that contact our corporation will soon learn that there is only one of the PF-70 coins that sold and that it is not available for purchase they will then start to snap up the PF-69’s that are on the market. With there being only 216 of them worldwide the pressure that will be placed on these coins will be immense. Do not miss the opportunity to place a number of these into your portfolio if you do not have any. They will not be available on the market for long.

Nelson Mandela leaves the InterContinental Hotel after a photo shoot with celebrity photographer Terry O’Neil on June 26, 2008 in London, England. Mandela is in London in advance of the 46664 concert being held at Hyde Park on Friday the 27th June to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday.

We at S A COIN can feel confident with the predictions that we are making on the PF-69 coins for we were able to see the marketplace in action on the Mandela Proof coins in the exact same circumstance. When we released our latest newsletter The Coin Report we stated that the 5 specimens of the finest known Mandela proofs in PF-69 are estimated to be worth R500 000 each. The moment that the newsletter hit the marketplace the Mandela Proof 68’s the second finest known of these coins of which there are 179 specimens that have been graded by PCGS and NGC started to come under immense market pressure. They started the beginning of the year at R35 000 and they are now trading at R100 000 a coin if you can get them.

Nelson Mandela appears onstage during the 46664 Concert In Celebration Of Nelson Mandela’s Life held at Hyde Park on June 27, 2008 in London, England.

Once the marketplace learned that there were 5 finest known’s that were valued at R500 000 we had request after request from investors and also collectors who wanted to buy one. But when we contacted the owners of these coins no matter how high we made the offers on these coins they all refused to sell. Three of the owners told us that the Proof Mandela 69’s were for their pensions. When a man tells you that he is holding onto an investment for his pension there is just simply no higher compliment that you can pay any investment. That is the type of faith that we see from all South Africans from all walks of life strongly displayed in the rare Mandela R5 coins.

Our advice to all the investors and collectors that are reading this is to contact one of our brokers now and snap up as many of the rare Mandela Proof Inauguration R5 coins as you can before they disappear from the marketplace. There are only 514 of the rare Mandela Inauguration proof R5 coins that have been graded in all grades by PCGS and NGC. And all of them are going to come under increasing pressure to rise in value with all of the market attention that they are going to be getting.

What Forex Trading is and How it Works

Here is a simple way to explain What Forex Trading is and How it Works

Forex trading is the simultaneous buying of one currency and selling of another
These two currencies make up what is known as a “currency pair”
Currencies are always traded in pairs – each currency is represented by three letters
The first two letters represent the country and the third letter identifies the currency
Forex pairs are read in the opposite direction of mathematical proportions or ratios

For example:

EUR/USD = 1.23700
The currency to the left of the slash (“/”) is called the base currency (in this example, the Euro) and the currency on the right is called the quote currency (in this example, the U.S Dollar)
This notation means that 1 unit of the base currency (that is, 1 Euro) is equal to 1.23700 U.S Dollars
You have to pay 1.23700 U.S Dollars to buy 1 Euro
If selling, the foreign currency exchange rate specifies how much units of the quote currency you get for selling one unit of the base currency
In the above example, you will receive 1.23700 U.S Dollars when you sell 1 Euro

When to Buy?

A trader would open a buy position if they believe that the value of that specific base currency would increase.

When to Sell?

A trader would open a sell position if they believe that the value of that specific base currency would decrease.
When can Currencies be Traded?
The spot FX market is unique among the world financial markets in that it’s open 24 hours a day, 5 days a week.

For you to start forex trading, you need to get yourself trained because matters that involves money can be too risky if tackled without prior knowledge
